Like Father, Like Son: Will and Jaden Smith to Star in M. Night Shyamalan Movie

M. Night Shyamalan hasn't had the best of luck with his feature films lately. The success and critical acclaim of "The Sixth Sense" has not since been matched, and Shyamalan's most recent original projects, "The Happening" and "The Last Airbender," were absolutely demolished by critics.

In fact, "The Last Airbender" won a slew of Razzie awards.

So how does Shyamalan plan to get back on track and make a successful film? Easy: get the Smiths on board.

Will Smith and his son Jaden are set to star in Shyamalan's next film, a project that was previously titled "1000 A.E." The movie is being described as a futuristic sci-fi story of a young boy and his father who are stranded on a post-apocalyptic Earth.  The producing team of Will Smith and James Lassiter will join Shyamalan in executive producing, as will Smith's wife Jada Pinkett-Smith.

Shyamalan wrote the script (uh-oh) along with "The Book of Eli" writer Gary Whitta (also uh-oh). Hopefully there's enough sense between all of the producers to know when they have a good product.

The Smiths have co-starred before (in "The Pursuit of Happyness") but have not appeared in a movie together since 2006. Will last appeared in "Seven Pounds" and is currently filming the troubled "Men in Black III" while Jaden last appeared in "The Karate Kid," which was a huge commercial success.
