What a Twist! M. Night Shyamalan Developing TV Show for SyFy

Though the movie industry hasn't seen the last of M. Night Shyamalan (his latest feature film "After Earth" is due out next year), it looks as though the director of "The Sixth Sense" is jumping into the television biz.

According to THR, Shyamalan is developing a new TV show for SyFy, which considering the director's previous work is probably exactly where he belongs. The show will be titled "Proof," and it will center on a multi-billionaire who offers a large cash reward to anyone who can prove to him that the afterlife exists.

This won't be the first time Shyamalan has tackled religion in a sci-fi setting: his alien invasion story "Signs" had heavy themes about faith and the afterlife as well.

Perhaps the move to the small screen is just what Shyamalan needs. He was a hit with the still-pretty-awesome "The Sixth Sense," but each new offering after that was more and more reviled by critics and fans. By the time "The Happening" lead into "The Last Airbender," there were those who questioned if Shyamalan would ever make a successful film again (or any film, for that matter).

I, for one, will be approaching a Shyamalan-created TV show with an open mind and medium to high hopes. Perhaps, in a post-"Lost" world, we can handle a show with what will likely be a ton of twists.
